But its the increase in ISO capability which is most worrying, now having a selectable range from 100-16000 ISO. Sony state low-noise images, but what i think this will mean in practise is the camera capturing multiple images & processing multiple images for one shot. The digital viewfinder is higher resolution than that on the A55, but still maintains LCD technology at 1440k-dots- not the latest OLED technology used in the Sony Alpha A77. The Auto Focus Tracking system is improved for continuous shooting & HD Movie making.
Interesting, is Sony's approach to increasing your ability to record Telephoto images with the A57. The A57 basically has an in-built Telephoto Converter, but in layman terms its just digital zoom!!! It can crop at 1.4x (reduces pixels to 8.4MP) & 2x (reducing pixels to 4MP). This means that if you had a 300mm lens on the A57, including the cameras natural 1.5x magnification due to the APS-C sized sensor used- you would be able to photograph at an equivalent of 900mm at 4MP. A new function on the A57 is 'Auto Portrait Framing' mode where the camera refines the your composition, trimming your pictures for a more tightly framed Portraits.
Even though it means saying goodbye to an old friend, there is no doubt that the NEW Sony Alpha A57 will be a spectacular camera.
