NEW CANON BR (BLUE SPECTRUM REFRACTIVE) LENS COMING SOON

Rumour has it we can expect a NEW lens from Canon before this years out, which will include their new 'Blue Spectrum Refractive Optical Element'. According to Canon, this new BR element sets a new level in Chromatic Aberration Correction for outstanding image quality. This new BR element is due to debut in the Canon EF 35mm f1.4L II USM (Due OCT'15).

"TOKYO, August 27, 2015—Canon Inc. today announced that it has developed a new Blue Spectrum Refractive (BR) optical element for use in camera lenses that corrects for chromatic aberrations at an exceptionally high level to make possible superior imaging performance.

The new Canon-developed BR optical element offers characteristics that significantly refract blue light, which lies within the short-wavelength range, to achieve impressive levels of chromatic aberration correction for outstanding imaging performance. The BR optical element, sandwiched between two glass lens elements to create a BR lens, will make its debut in the new EF35mm f/1.4L II USM wide-angle fixed-focal-length lens, which is scheduled to go on sale in October 2015.

Natural light, or white light, comprises a spectrum of wavelengths, or colors, each of which realizes a unique refractive index when passing through a lens. As all colors do not converge on the same point, this disparity causes chromatic aberrations, or color fringing, to occur in an image".

Canon's Composite Lens employing the BR optical element

Canon develops optical elements by reviewing organic optical materials, beginning with the design of molecular structures, with the aim of achieving optimal chromatic aberration correction that suppresses color fringing. With the successful development of the BR optical element, which offers unique light-dispersion characteristics that significantly refract blue light—a wavelength that, until now, had proven particularly difficult to converge to a specific focal point—Canon is able to develop lenses that make possible outstanding imaging performance by correcting for chromatic aberrations at an exceptionally high level.

CANON RUMOURS BLOG have suggested that this NEW lens is likely to be the replacement for the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II, which we can clearly understand. Ever since the release of the Tamron SP 15-30mm f/2.8 Di VC USD, the Tamron has proven itself to be both superior in image quality & value to its Canon & Nikon counterpart.

TheCameraStoreTV did a comparison of the 2 lenses in this YouTube video

LEAKED: IMAGES & SPECS FOR THE NEW CANON POWERSHOT G5X & POWERSHOT G9X

A list of Specifications & Images have recently been leaked of the upcoming Canon Powershot G5X & Powershot G9X. The Premium Compact market is massively growing worldwide as photographers & enthusiasts are demanding DSLR quality in their pocket. These 2 new models show that Canon are really putting in an interest in this area of the market, but are they just playing catch-up?

Although we cannot judge the performance of the upcoming Canon Powershot G5X, it doesn't seem to have the style of the Olympus Stylus 1s or Fujifilm X30 (both fantastic picture takers), which in our experience is a big factor in choosing these high performance compacts. For those looking to buy a very small premium compact its not as small as the ever-popular Sony Cybershot RX100 mk 3 & mk 4, which brings us to the Canon Powershot G9X. The G9X looks very compact (looks very similar to the FujiFilm XF1), but in comparison to the Sony's, its appears lacking in specifications. For example, the Sony Cybershot RX100 mk 3 also has a 20MP 1 inch sensor, Equivalent 24-70mm f/1.8-2.8 Zeiss Lens & a digital viewfinder.

ANNOUNCED: CANON DEVELOPING 8K CINEMA EOS CAMERA, AN 8K DISPLAY SCREEN & A 120 MegaPixel DSLR

Out of the blue Canon have announced that they are developing an 8K Cinema EOS Camera, a Professional-use reference 8K Display Screen & an Ultra-High resolution 120 MegaPixel Digital SLR.

THINK WE ARE GOING TO NEED A BIGGER CARD.......& MUCH FASTER....

Canon's Statement:

Canon, as a leading company in the field of imaging technology, conducts research and development into devices designed to support cinema and video production with the aim of expanding the boundaries of visual expression. Through the further enhancement of the Cinema EOS System 8K camera and professional-use 8K reference display under development, Canon aims to contribute to smooth production workflows, facilitating not only the input and output of 8K video content, but also such processes as 8K to 4K down-conversion and 4K cropping.

The Cinema EOS System 8K camera being developed will be equipped with a Canon Super 35 mm-equivalent CMOS sensor that makes possible high-resolution 8,192 x 4,320 pixel (approximately 35.39 million effective pixels) imaging performance even at a frame rate of 60 frames per second with 13 stops1 of dynamic range and a richly expressive wide color gamut. Additionally, featuring a body size that realizes outstanding mobility and a design that delivers high levels of operability, along with an EF mount that offers compatibility with Canon’s extensive interchangeable EF lens lineup,2 the camera will support diverse shooting styles and means of visual expression.

Incorporating Canon image-processing technology, the ultra-high-resolution 8K reference display currently under development will achieve high brightness, high contrast (high dynamic range) and a wide color gamut. Additionally, with a pixel density exceeding 300 pixels per inch, a level approaching the limit of human visibility, the display will make possible ultra-realistic imaging that enables the reproduction of subtle changes in light that were previously not possible. Furthermore, when used in combination with the Cinema EOS System 8K camera, the display will be capable of conveying truly impressive levels of visual expression.

Featuring a resolution of approximately 120 effective megapixels, the SLR camera now being developed will incorporate a Canon-developed high-pixel-density CMOS sensor within the current EOS-series platform, which will realize compatibility with the Company’s diverse interchangeable EF lens lineup.3 The high-resolution images that the camera will be capable of producing will recreate the three-dimensional texture, feel and presence of subjects, making them appear as if they are really before one’s eyes. The camera will facilitate a level of resolution that is more than sufficient for enlarged poster-sized printout while also enabling images to be cropped and trimmed without sacrificing image resolution and clarity.

1. A stop is a unit of measurement used to express dynamic range, which refers to the difference between the brightest and darkest areas of an image that can be simultaneously captured.

2. Out of the 96 lenses that make up the EF lens lineup, 78 models (60 EF lenses and 18 EF Cinema Lenses) will be compatible with the 8K camera under development.

3. Out of the 96 lenses that make up the EF lens lineup, 60 models will be compatible with the SLR camera under development.

FUJIFILM HAS RELEASED A NEW FIRMWARE UPGRADE FOR THE FUJIFILM X-T10

Pictured: Fujifilm X-T10
Fujifilm has just released a NEW firmware upgrade for it's NEW Fujifilm X-T10. The firmware deals with compatibility issues with Windows 10 & updates will be available for other Fujifilm models by the end of the year. The update also improves Eye Detection AF & Face Detection when used with the NEW Fujifilm XF 90mm f/2 R LM WR, and operation improvements have been made to 'Fn1' button.

Information from Fujifilm's website regarding the update shown below:

The firmware update Ver. 1.01 from Ver. 1.00 incorporates the following issues:
1. Improvement of "EYE DETECTION AF" speed when used with XF90mmF2 R LM WR
"EYE DETECTION AF" speed is improved when used with XF90mmF2 R LM WR in case that "FACE DETECTION" and "EYE DETECTION AF" are ON in "AUTO FOCUS SETTING" of the Shooting Menu.
2. Operational improvement of Fn1 Function button (Default setting : movie shooting)
The shortcut function to Fn1 BUTTON SETTING by pressing the button more than 2 sec. is removed. To avoid accidentally pressing the button when turning the Exposure compensation dial, pressing the button approx. 0.5sec. is required to start the function allocated to the button. This improvement is to avoid unexpected appearance of the SETTING when Fn1 function is needed.

<Note-1>
Functions of Fn2 through Fn7 button remain same.
<Note-2>
Steps to change the setting of Fn1 are same as usual like below.
Change it in the function(Fn) setting menu appeared by pressing DISP/BACK button for a while.
Change it through Setup Menu>BUTTON/DIAL SETTING>FUNCTION (Fn) SETTING.
3. Angle difference between jpeg image and jpeg image converted from RAW file
Currently, there is angle difference between jpeg image (including jpeg images converted in a camera) and jpeg image converted from RAW file by RAW FILE CONVERTER EX2.0 etc. The jpeg image angle converted from RAW file is a little bigger.
With this upgrade, the jpeg image angle is matched to one which is converted from RAW file. This symptom happens only when lenses below is used. In case of zoom lenses, this happen in wide-angle side.

XC16-50mmF3.5-5.6 OIS, XC16-50mmF3.5-5.6 OIS , XF18-55mmF2.8-4 R LM OIS,
XF10-24mmF4 R OIS, XF16-55mmF2.8 R LM WR, XF18-135mmF3.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR,
XF18mmF2 R and XF27mmF2.8
4. Support for Windows10

The phenomenon is fixed that images in a camera cannot be transferred to a Windows10 PC via a USB cable.

Pantiles Cameras/Chas Norman Cameras- Camera Reviews and News: The FUJIFILM XF 90mm f/2 Internal 'Rattle/Clunk'

The FUJIFILM XF 90mm f/2 Internal 'Rattle/Clunk'

Pictured: FUJIFILM XF 90mm f/2 R LM WR

With the release of the NEW Fujifilm XF 90mm f/2 R LM WR, the internet has become awash with nervous photographers wondering whether they have a faulty version of this lens- due to what's being described as a 'Rattle'. To be honest, it was the first thing I noticed when removing the lens from the box was this unusual feature, except I would refer to it as a 'Clunk'. Whatever it is, the weight of what can freely move internally within the lens can clearly be felt & with so many people experiencing this it must be part of the make-up of this particular lens.

What has already been pointed out & is the likely cause of the 'Clunk' is the lenses Newly Developed Quad-Linear Motor designed for Faster AF Speed. This motor's design comprises of FOUR magnets for higher torque. The reason its likely to be the culprit, is when the lens is attached to the camera & the camera is turned ON, the magnets become magnetized & can no longer freely move. So in summary, when actually using the lens the 'Rattle/Clunk' seizes to exit. But photographers have still expressed concerns on the wear & longevity of this internal section when clunking up & down in-use & transporting.

FUJIFILM- you should release a statement to your very loyal customers, suppressing any doubts they may have about this feature.

On a positive note, this lens is PHENOMENAL. The Sharpness & Clarity of this lens is absolutely astonishing with beautiful Bokeh, minimal aberrations results in some fantastic images. If you are a Portrait photographer- you should not be without this lens in you kit bag.

NEW Firmware Upgrade (Ver. 4) Now available for the FUJIFILM X-T1

Fujifilm X-T1

The eagerly anticipated NEW firmware Version 4 is now available for the Fujifilm X-T1, which absolutely transforms your existing camera into a whole new beast. The improvement to the AF system is beyond belief & also updates some other handling functions.

1. New AF System
(1)Zone and Wide/Tracking modes for effortless capture of moving subjects The AF System complements the fast and accurate 49-single-point autofocus system with new Zone and Wide/Tracking modes, which use 77 autofocus points across a wider area to substantially improve the camera's ability to capture moving subjects.
(2)Improvement of AF accuracy Single-point AF divides the focus area into smaller sections to more accurately determine the distance to the subject for even greater focusing accuracy. The built-in phase detection pixels have the detection range of 0.5EV, an improvement from the previous 2.5EV, delivering phase detection AF performance that enables fast focusing in low-light conditions and on low- contrast subjects.
(3)Eye detection AF The firmware update provides Fujifilm's Eye Detection AF, which automatically detects and focuses on human eyes. The function allows you to easily focus on the eyes even in difficult conditions.
(4)Auto Macro mode The firmware update introduces the Auto Macro function, which automatically switches the camera into the Macro mode while maintaining the conventional AF speed. You no longer have to press the Macro button to initiate a close-up shot. This update eliminates the Macro function assigned to the Macro Button, allowing you to assign a different function to the button. (Just after this update, the function will be assigned to AF mode selection.)
(5)AF improvement in the Movie mode The optimized algorithm delivers a more natural and smooth AF action during movie recording.
2. Improvements
(1)Improved Shutter Speed Dial operation When the Shutter Speed Dial is set to T and the Shutter Type to Mechanical + Electronic, you can use the command dial to set a full range of exposure times from 30-1/32000sec. Previously, this was limited to 30-2 seconds. This is particularly useful when shooting in the portrait orientation with the Vertical Battery Grip VG-XT1 attached.
(2)Exposure Compensation control in Manual You can use the Exposure Compensation dial to make exposure adjustments while shooting in the Manual exposure mode with the ISO Auto setting.
(3)Finer lines on the framing grid enhances visibility The lines on the framing grid, which you can choose to display in the Screen Set-Up menu, have been made finer making it easier to view the subject.

(4)Name of Silent mode changed to avoid confusion The Silent Mode has been renamed to "SOUND & FLASH OFF" .

Fujifilm's X series cameras are currently the cameras to have, they are exceptional quality & are not out-dated the minute take it out of the box - thanks to firmware. Fujifilm are leading the field when it comes to listening to there customers & updating there cameras & have received a strong loyalty customer base for it....
